Job Summary

The Compliance Manager will manage all tax and audit functions for the Garcia companies and related individuals. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations as well as overseeing financial statements for external attestation. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills and extensive knowledge of federal and state income taxation.

Role / Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of all income tax returns and estimated tax payments for all Garcia businesses (partnerships, S-corporations, and trusts) and related individuals.
  • Oversee the preparation of periodic and annual tax-basis financial statements for Garcia companies with complex tax calculations (263A, 199A, etc.).
  • Manage tax and financial statement audits and reviews. Coordinate with external advisors and auditors as needed.
  • Review fixed asset ledgers and the computation of MACRS tax depreciation for all Garcia companies.
  • Maintain proper documentation to support financial statement and tax return positions.
  • Support operating divisions with financial insights and reporting to include budgeting, budget to actuals, aged receivables, etc.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
  • Review processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and mitigate risk.
  • Monitor and analyze changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their application to and impact on all Garcia companies and related individuals.
  • Evaluate multi-state and local filing requirements as businesses expand. This includes but is not limited to income tax, payroll tax, and sales and use tax.
  • Research tax and accounting issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or higher (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of relevant tax experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state income tax regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize among competing responsibilities.
  • Sound judgement and decision-making ability.
  • Highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Professional and courteous demeanor.

Experience / Skills Desired

  • CPA license.
  • Master's in Taxation.
  • Public accounting experience.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds at times.
