GIS Analyst

Job Summary

The GIS Analyst will be responsible for managing complex spatial datasets, building streamlined workflows, and serving as a technical bridge between the GIS team and field personnel, planners, and adjacent divisions (Development, Agriculture, and Mining).

Role / Responsibilities

Geospatial Data Management & Processing

  • Process, analyze, and manage large-scale datasets including RGB60 aerial imagery, multispectral imagery (MSI), and LiDAR for terrain modeling, canopy structure, landform classification, and vegetation health.
  • Maintain authoritative geodatabases using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise (SDE), adhering to FGDC and internal Garcia data standards.
  • Design schemas, implement versioned workflows, and manage lifecycle data across production and QA environments.
  • Develop and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) scripts for data integration using Python, ModelBuilder, and tools like SAFE FME (preferred).
  • Ensure spatial accuracy and metadata integrity across all deliverables.

ArcGIS Platform & Workflow Administration

  • Administer and configure content in ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online (AGOL), including permissions, content libraries, and Portal user roles.
  • Develop and publish web applications, dashboards, and mobile tools (Survey123, Field Maps, QuickCapture) to streamline field operations and stakeholder reporting.
  • Support and troubleshoot automation and deployment processes using Experience Builder, ArcGIS Hub, and related Esri apps.

Cross-Divisional Project Support

  • Deliver cartographic and analytical products to support environmental permitting, silviculture, grazing, water management, land valuation, and development feasibility.
  • Interface with land planners, project managers, and operations staff across Agriculture, Development, and Mining Divisions to interpret project requirements into spatial solutions.
  • Support GIS needs for lease tracking, encroachment monitoring, compliance assessments, and conservation easement mapping.

Quality Assurance & Documentation

  • Conduct QA/QC on spatial datasets from internal and external sources, ensuring topological correctness and data consistency.
  • Document workflows, schema designs, naming conventions, and versioning practices for team transparency and reproducibility.
  • Create training and reference materials for end-users and junior team members.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Forestry, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Natural Resources, or a closely related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3–5 years of relevant GIS experience in land management, environmental consulting, or a natural resources organization.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Esri tools including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise (SDE), ArcGIS Online, Survey123, and Field Maps.
  • Familiarity with managing and interpreting RGB60, LiDAR, and MSI data.
  • Proficient in geodatabase design, schema management, and spatial ETL using Python and/or SAFE FME.
  • Strong cartographic design skills and experience producing publication-ready products.
  • Understanding of Florida ecosystems, land ownership structures, water management regulations, and post-mining land uses.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to multitask and meet project deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites as needed. 

 

Experience / Skills Desired

  • Familiarity with CAD/GIS integration.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Hub, or Esri Dashboards.
  • Knowledge of USDA programs, conservation easements, or forestry BMPs.
  • Ability to mentor junior analysts or technicians and contribute to internal training initiatives.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Must be able to stand for multiple hours and be outdoors, in varied weather and temperature conditions, for an extended period.
  • Hybrid work setting considered: typical office environment working with computer and remaining sedentary for extended periods when not performing field work.
  • Must be able to handle occasional high stress and a high-pressure environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. at a time.
