Job Summary
The GIS Technician supports spatial data development, maintenance, and analysis across Florida’s diverse agricultural, forestry, and post-mining landscapes. The GIS Technician will assist senior geospatial staff with map production, imagery processing, field data integration, and geodatabase management. This role provides a growth opportunity in a multidisciplinary environment where data accuracy, operational efficiency, and cross-divisional coordination are essential.
Role / Responsibilities
GIS Data Support & Management
- Create, edit, and maintain geospatial datasets using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
- Digitize and update spatial layers related to land boundaries, easements, roads, drainage, vegetation, and utilities.
- Perform basic geoprocessing tasks such as clipping, buffering, merging, and spatial joins.
- Assist in maintaining metadata and ensuring topological integrity across datasets.
- Support SDE geodatabase operations and content organization within ArcGIS Enterprise and AGOL.
Remote Sensing & Imagery Assistance
- Process and catalog aerial and sensor datasets including RGB60, LiDAR, and multispectral imagery (MSI).
- Support the generation of raster products such as NDVI, elevation models, and false-color composites.
- Maintain imagery libraries, including data versioning and file organization standards.
Cartography & Map Production
- Generate high-quality static and web-based maps for internal planning, permitting, and stakeholder presentations.
- Apply established cartographic standards and symbology consistent with project goals and land-use applications.
- Support the export of map packages and content for publication in ArcGIS Online or internal portals.
Mobile GIS & Field Support
- Prepare and configure mobile data collection tools using Survey123, Field Maps, and Trimble DA2 Catalyst.
- Assist with GPS-based field data collection, post-processing, and integration into enterprise systems.
- Translate field observations into structured GIS datasets for project analysis and compliance tracking.
Cross-Divisional Collaboration
- Coordinate with team members across Development, Agriculture, and Mining Divisions to fulfill spatial data requests and align on project deliverables.
- Track mapping tasks and communicate status updates clearly with project leads and stakeholders.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Experience / Skills Required
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Forestry, Agriculture, or a related discipline.
- 0–2 years of GIS-related experience, including internships, research projects, or coursework with hands-on spatial analysis.
- Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online (AGOL) and Python; familiarity with Survey123, Field Maps, Trimble.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and general data handling proficiency.
- Experience with cartographic principles and map design best practices.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to multitask and meet project deadlines.
- Interest in Florida’s ecosystems, land use, and natural resource conservation.
- Interest or experience in the construction field.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
Experience / Skills Desired
- Familiarity with LiDAR, RGB, or MSI datasets and their application in terrain, vegetation, or land-use modeling is a plus.
- Basic scripting knowledge (e.g., Python or ModelBuilder) is advantageous but not required.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Must be able to stand for multiple hours and be outdoors, in varied weather and temperature conditions, for an extended period.
- Hybrid work setting considered: typical office environment working with computer and remaining sedentary for extended periods when not performing field work.
- Must be able to handle occasional high stress and a high-pressure environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. at a time.
