Job Summary
The Senior Compliance Accountant will perform tax and audit functions for all Garcia companies and related individuals as well as accounting and financial reporting for select companies. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations as well as overseeing financial statements for external attestation. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills and extensive knowledge of federal and state income taxation.
Role / Responsibilities
- Prepare and file federal and state income tax returns and estimated payments for all Garcia businesses (including partnerships, S-corporations, and trusts) and related individuals
- File non-income tax returns including but not limited to sales tax, personal property tax, business license renewals, and unclaimed property
- Complete periodic closing procedures and all financial reports (tax-basis financial statements, cash flow reports, budgets, budget-to-actuals, etc.) for Garcia companies with complex tax calculations (263A, 199A, etc.)
- Verify accuracy of financial data (by company, account, and cost center)
- Post journal entries as necessary
- Prepare all necessary work papers and source documentation in an audit-ready format to support financial statement and tax return positions
- Compile financial statements and footnotes for company attestation engagements
- Maintain fixed asset ledgers and the computation of MACRS tax depreciation for all Garcia companies
- Calculate taxable vehicle-use related to company vehicles and continuously monitor company vehicle assignments and completion of mileage forms
- Monitor and analyze changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their application to and impact on all Garcia companies and related individuals
- Evaluate multi-state and local filing requirements as businesses expand. This includes but is not limited to income tax, payroll tax, and sales and use tax
- Research tax and accounting issues
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Experience / Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or higher (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of tax experience including preparation of individual and business tax returns
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state income tax regulations
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize among competing responsibilities
- Sound judgement and decision-making ability
- Highest degree of integrity and confidentiality
- Professional and courteous demeanor
Experience / Skills Desired
- CPA license
- Master’s in Taxation
- Public accounting experience
- Supervisory experience

- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds at times
