Job Summary
The Tax Manager will oversee all aspects of tax accounting and compliance for the Garcia companies and related individuals. This role is responsible for periodic and annual financial reporting on the tax basis of accounting as well as ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills and extensive knowledge of federal and state income taxation.
Role / Responsibilities
- Manage and ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of all federal and state income tax returns for all Garcia businesses (partnerships, S-corporations, and trusts) and related individuals, including preparation as necessary.
- Compute detailed tax calculations (263A, 199A, etc.)
- Utilize accounting software to record, store, and analyze information.
- Oversee the preparation of periodic and year-end tax-basis financial statements.
- Assist with budget preparation and periodic reporting of budget-to-actual results.
- Maintain proper documentation to support financial statement and tax return positions.
- Manage tax audits/reviews and coordinate with external advisors and auditors as needed.
- Train and mentor tax associates.
- Review tax processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and mitigate risk.
- Monitor and analyze changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their application to and impact on all Garcia companies and related individuals.
- Evaluate multi-state and local tax filing requirements as businesses expand.
- Research tax and accounting issues.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience / Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or higher (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of relevant tax experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state income tax regulations.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize among competing responsibilities.
- Sound judgement and decision-making ability.
- Highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
- Professional and courteous demeanor.
Experience / Skills Desired
- CPA license.
- Master’s in Taxation.
- Public accounting experience.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds at times.
