Human Resources Generalist

Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for delivering core HR services, with a focus on recruiting and transactional HR operations. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently while staying closely aligned with the Vice President, Human Resources based at our Virginia headquarters.

This is a hands-on, working role that requires a willingness to roll up your sleeves and actively engage in day-to-day execution. As a growing organization, priorities and processes will continue to evolve, requiring flexibility, resilience, and a proactive mindset. Success in this role depends on the ability to adapt quickly, pivot as needed, and confidently dive in to support the business wherever needed.

Role / Responsibilities

Recruiting and Onboarding

  • Partner with hiring managers to identify local staffing needs and coordinate recruiting efforts.
  • Manage full-cycle recruiting, including posting positions, screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and supporting offer processes.
  • Lead onboarding for local new hires, in collaboration with the HR team, ensuring a seamless introduction to the company, culture, and role-specific training.
  • Build and maintain relationships with colleges, community programs, and local workforce partners to attract skilled labor, where applicable.
  • Support employee retention strategies and offboarding processes as necessary.

Employee Relations and HR Operations

  • Serve as the first point of contact for local employees regarding HR policies, payroll, benefits, and general procedures.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture aligned with company values and consistent application of company policies.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Assist managers in resolving employee relations issues effectively and fairly, including the Vice President, HR in any employee relations concerns, performance issues, or policy violations; assist with documentation and administrative follow-up.
  • Support the performance review process and assist in coordinating related initiatives aimed at continuous improvement.
  • Support company-wide employee engagement efforts, including the annual engagement survey, recognition, and communication initiatives.
  • Regularly communicate with Vice President, HR to ensure alignment with company-wide HR strategies.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards for executive leadership, as needed.
  • Assist in executing special events such as open enrollment, community service projects, and milestone celebrations.

Workforce Development & Training

  • Assist the HR Generalist -Training & Leadership Development and managers in identifying training needs and coordinating learning and development activities that support employee growth.
  • Support the implementation of leadership development strategies and initiatives established by the HR Generalist - Training & Leadership Development and HR leadership.
  • Assist with the coordination and administration of learning programs, workshops, and leadership development initiatives across the organization.
  • Collaborate with the HR team and managers to help identify skills gaps, development needs, and opportunities for employee growth.
  • Support career pathing, mentoring, skill development, and succession planning initiatives in coordination with the HR Generalist - Training & Development and Vice President, HR.
  • Assist with the administration and follow-up of individual development plans for employees, including tracking progress and coordinating related development activities.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for training sessions, including scheduling, communications, materials, attendance tracking, and employee follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate training records, monitor completion rates, and assist with compiling data and feedback to evaluate training participation and effectiveness.
  • Assist with monitoring employee development activities and communicating progress or identified needs to the appropriate HR resource or manager.
  • Coordinate and track certification and licensing requirements to support workforce readiness and compliance.
  • Assist managers and HR leadership with aligning employee development activities and goals with organizational objectives.
  • Partner with the Vice President, HR and broader HR team to support performance management, employee engagement, recognition, and development initiatives.
  • Reinforce and promote a culture of continuous learning and employee development by communicating available resources, encouraging participation, and supporting HR-led initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties and support broader HR initiatives as assigned.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, organizational development, business, or a related field. 3–5 years of progressive HR experience with a strong emphasis on recruiting and employee engagement.
  • Experience supporting multiple office locations or a geographically dispersed workforce.
  • Working knowledge of federal and Florida state employment laws and HR best practices to include FMLA, ADA, etc.
  • Comfortable working independently while staying closely aligned with the Vice President, HR.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Strong proficiency in HR principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and exercise sound judgment and decision-making.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with strong computer literacy.

Experience / Skills Desired

  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification.
  • Experience with SharePoint.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel regularly within Florida and occasionally to Virginia.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times.
