Superintendent (Construction)

Job Summary

The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all on-site civil construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This role involves managing subcontractors, enforcing safety protocols, maintaining schedules, and ensuring compliance with project specifications and local regulations.

Role / Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily field operations for civil construction projects (e.g., earthwork, grading, utilities, concrete, paving).
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Monitor project schedules and adjust work as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Conduct daily site inspections and safety meetings; enforce safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and inspectors.
  • Facilitate and document Daily Whiteboard Safety Huddles.
  • Maintain accurate daily field reports, logs, and documentation of work progress.
  • Identify and resolve field issues or conflicts proactively.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment and materials on-site.
  • Lead on-site quality control and assurance processes.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients and subcontractors.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of environmental permit requirements and support enforcement of all requirements.
  • Meet with client and subcontractors to coordinate needs prior to site arrival and start of field activities.
  • Understand contract requirements and scope of work and directly support implementation of contracts from a field perspective.
  • Keep precise tracking of field progress and quantity completion of each task, updated on a weekly basis.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance against schedules and milestones and elevate any scheduling issues.
  • Track all site-specific change requests by client and/or subcontractor(s) and communicate timely to the Garcia Project Manager.
  • Assist Project Manager with quantity change estimates as they relate to the project site.
  • Assist Preconstruction team with plan quantity true ups as they relate to project site.
  • Support Project Manager with review and verification of subcontractor’s quantities complete for the monthly billing process.
  • Attend project site meetings, all safety meetings, stand-downs, and related functions/activities.
  • Monitor performance and quality of work by Garcia subcontractor(s) and vendor(s).
  • Represent Garcia with high integrity, a team-oriented perspective, and emphasis on successful relationship building, consistent with core values. 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Experience / Skills Required

  • 5+ years’ experience or an equivalent of higher education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, government safety and occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Desire to self-manage and assume ownership over job responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational, time management and planning skills.
  • Ability to communicate, professionally, in both oral and written format.
  • Excellent recordkeeping abilities.
  • Demonstrate highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License, a clean driving record, and a reliable mode of transportation. 

Experience / Skills Desired

  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Endure continuous standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours and weekends in response to short-term company needs and/or emergencies.
  • Ability to travel throughout job sites as required (including out of state jobs).
  • Ability to access heights above ground level via ladders, construction equipment, etc.
  • Ability to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, safety shoes, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, fall protection harness or other personal protective equipment in designated areas of risk.
  • Ability to work outside in varied weather and temperature conditions.
